Where: Karakorum Mountain Range, Northern Pakistan
Best Season: October – March
Best Sights: Scaling epic glaciers
Remember to Bring: A local guide experienced in navigating the glacier surface
The Karakoram Highway is one of the highest and wildest stretches of road in the world, passing through the Hindu Kush, Pamir, Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges and linking Pakistan and China. The Rash Peak trek takes 3 days, crossing two glaciers and ascending a total of seven thousand feet.
A guide is indispensable for this trek. You can easily get lost in the glaciers and they’re full of hidden dangers, uneven ground and deep crevices.
When you’re trekking at altitude, always beware of altitude sickness. Ascending too high too fast can be fatal – pay attention to your body and if you get into difficulties descend to a lower altitude without delay.
