Being an avid fan of Globe Trekker for many years, I was overjoyed to learn on the Globe Trekker Forum last July that Ian Wright was doing a cross-Canada tour. My friends and I drove to Toronto the weekend of October 21st to see his show. The show took place in Convocation Hall at the University of Toronto - two full hours of travel stories, outtakes from the show, some home movies and the famous showreel that got him his job! And then, he fielded questions from the audience for another hour! Wow, what a perfect way to spend the evening in the big city!
The next morning, my boyfriend David and I got up early and headed to MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) where Ian was having a "meet and greet". Oh boy, what a treat - Ian twice in one week! I brought a copy of my showreel to give to Ian, I wore my England World Cup Jersey for brownie points and I packed a goodie bag filled with Halloween candy to sweeten the deal!
Shortly after arriving at MEC, we got the chance to talk to Ian. We chatted for a while about football and also about some of the places we’ve traveled to. He was happy to get the goodie bag (his exact words were "‘thanks for breakfast!"). He also encouraged me to keep applying to Globe Trekker.
Before we left, Ian gave us prints of his watercolour paintings and we had a quick photo together.
Watching Globe Trekker, I’ve always been impressed by Ian’s enthusiastic and engaging style and I was delighted to find that he is as fun and approachable in person.
