Nyali Beach, Mombasa
There are some fantastic beaches in Kenya. Mombasa
is the main beach resort in the country. This is Kenya's second
biggest city so there is a tendency for the beaches to get
crowded. Nyali Beach is the main beach around Mombasa, and this
is where the bigger hotels are based. Be warned: the reef
is quite far out so prepare for a swim if you want to go snorkelling.
Malindi & Watamu
Further up the coast, the Malindi/ Watamu Marine national
Park and Reserve have some of the most beautiful stretches
of beach and reef in the country. This offers great opportunities
for game fishing or boat trips to spot dolphins.
Lamu
If snorkelling is not you thing then Lamu has 8 miles
of perfect sand with no reef meaning that there are major
waves on Shela Beach. Remember that this is a Muslim
area so do not sunbathe topless or nude, especially as there
has been some problems of violence towards sole women travellers
here.
