On the road
By sea
The dhows may look nice, but the problems with travelling
by sea is that some of them take about 24 hours to get to
the mainland and some of them dont make it all. Its
a safer bet to catch the hydrofoil, a quicker, modern
alternative.
By train
The Tazara is one of the worlds great railways.
Built with Chinese help, it runs 1,162 miles into the heart
of Zambia. Travel is cheap on the railways, and the rail side
vendors make sure that you never go hungry.
By plane
Light planes provide an expensive aerial taxi service. Chartering
in a group makes it more cost effective for travellers. It
is not as cheap as the train - but much quicker and more reliable.
By hot air ballon
Taking a hot air balloon in the Serengeti National Park is a definite must. At $400 a blow this is a very expensive
way of getting away from it all, but save up those cents and
do it, the view is spectacular. It is one of the largest parks
in Africa at 10,000 square miles. With a balloon flight you
can see very large plains what you cannot see from the ground
