Uganda and Zaire: Travel

Our Journey Path

Our four week trek took us in search of the endangered mountain gorilla in the forest of Bwindi. The first destination is Kasese at the foot of the Rwenzori mountains. The road north passes through Queen Elizabeth National Park. Then we go north to the Rwenzori Mountains on the border with Zaire to try and climb Africa's third highest mountain, Mount Stanley. The final leg of this Central Africa trek takes us into Zaire, the third largest country in Africa. The first destination is Beni, on the eastern edge of the vast Ituri forest around Mt Hoyo to visit the Mbuti pygmies.

On The Road

The roads in Eastern Zaire have been described as the worst in the world. It rains most of the year and from Beni to Mt Hoyo you can be stranded in pot holes for days at a time.
