Israel and the Sinai Desert: Travel

Our Journey Path

We travel from Tel Aviv to the Golan Heights then south to Jerusalem and the Occupied West Bank, then crossing over the border with Egypt into the Sinai Desert and ending our journey at Mount Sinai.

On the Road

By Bus
The Egged bus company is one of the largest in the world and it's the easiest way to travel round the country. A month's Israbus pass costs about 140 US dollars.
The company has an arrangement with the Israeli Defence Force to transport soldiers to and from their bases, so the stations and buses are always packed with troops. In fact, in time of war, Egged acts as a back-up fleet transporting personnel and equipment.

By stretch limo
If bus travel starts to get to you, try a Sherut. These are usually stretch Mercedes which can fit up to 7 people. They travel between cities at a pre-fixed price and, if full, they cost roughly the same as a bus.

Into Egypt
The UN corridor which separates Egypt from Israel is just 200 metres wide. You must take a bus across that corridor into Israel to show your passport, then expect a several hour wait at the other side in passport security. You must pay 6 sheqels which is $2 or £1.50 to get onto a large empty bus which took 30 seconds to cross the little road into Egypt.
