One of the lesser-known of the Gulf States, Bahrain was one of the first Arab countries to sustain its economy outside of the oil industry. While plagued by the same controversies as the Arab Gulf States, Bahrain has a richer and more illustrious history-even claiming to have been the site of the Garden of Eden. Its capital of Manama has become an increasingly important city in the region.
