Known for its abundance of oil reserves, Kuwait is one of the wealthiest states in the Persian Gulf region. With a small population of just over 4 million, 70% of its residents are expatriates, a bizarre anomaly. Kuwait is known for having a far more liberal and open society than the other Arab Gulf States, perhaps due to its diversity. A major hub of the Middle Eastern film industry, Kuwait is well known for its influence in the sphere of modern Arab popular culture.
