Melbourne

Melbourne

Australias first capital, Melbourne is the countrys biggest city after its perennial rival Sydney. While it is often overlooked in favour of the more glamorous and picturesque Sydney, Melbourne is very much the cultural centre of the country. The birthplace of Australian film and impressionism, Melbourne is regarded as the countrys main artistic hub. It is also known for its vast public parks and top-notch infrastructure as home to the worlds largest tram network. Melbourne is highly cosmopolitan, home to a number of different immigrant cultures, most notably Chinese, Indian and Vietnamese. It is also known for its thriving Italian and Greek communities, home to the largest Greek-speaking population outside of Greece.
