OK I'm gonna be the first to post a couple of questions for you Zoe...
Look forward to chatting on Wednesday!

1. What is your favourite journey?
Oh wow... good question. Travelling to any kind of party with my friends.

2. What is your 1st travel memory?
Watching a camel pee-ing on the island of Lanzarote. It stopped the traffic and I from my childs-eye view I was totally fascinated. Then on the same trip I met a lady on a beach who lived in a cave with a pet monkey and that was pretty amazing. I was about 3 at the time.

3. Who was your greatest influence? Dinah Washington or David Attenborough and why?
David Attenborough is my celebrity crush - he was about the only thing we were allowed to watch on TV when we were kids. His was and still is an amazing wildlife TV presenter.
As for Dinah Washington - her voice to me just oozes soul and I just can't get enough of her.

4. How did you get into Samba dancing?
A girlfriend of mine dragged me along to this class years ago cos she didn't want to go to the gym anymore. She dropped out after only class but I was totally hooked and kept at it. I then joined up with the Paradiso Dance school in Brixton, South London. Those boys can totally move, they are amazing...!

5. What's the best carnival on the Planet?

Well I've never been to Rio but I've not yet been to that. I reckon the London Notting Hill Carnival is one of the best - and loads of the dancers come over especially from Brazil. I also hear that Trinidad is pretty amazing.

Hi Zoe - Here's some more questions for ya...

How did you get to be a Globe Trekker presenter?

Do you prefer, singing, dancing, tv presenting, traveling... or studying?

Where do you live now and what are you working at?

How did I get to be a GT presenter. A friend of mine pestered me and pestered - actually it was Rob one of the directors - and made me put a showreel together. He was really enthusiastic and encouraging so I did. In fact I spent my last 50 quid (GBP) putting it together over last Christmas. Actually I'd almost spent all my money on Christmas presents.

It's impossible to prefer 1 or the other but the great thing about presenting is that it combines all of those things... singing, dancing, traveling... etc. although I am a bit of a geek at heart!

I live in one of the smokiest cities in the world: London and I'm working at writing lots of different songs with children at the moment. We're writing songs about water, about the River Thames. Basically it's a community project in East London involving 150 school kids with songwriters and performers joining in. And it's really fun, especially the kids.

Hey Zoe here's my questions:
Thank youuuuuu!

1 What book are you reading in that photo?
I think it's Alexander McCall Smith "The Tears of The Giraffe" which is the 2nd book in the trilogy The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency based in Botswana. I'm totally in love with her character. In fact I'm afraid to see the TV version cos when you read a great book you get to imagine the character in your mind and sometimes the film doesn't live up to that.

2 What's your favorite travel book?
Not really, a travel book but "My Family and Other Animals" by Gerald Durrell and it's about true story about his life and experiences on the island of Corfu. He had a pet magpie - and I always wanted one of those. In fact I still do.

3 Whats your favorite music to travel with (what's on your iPod?)
Tom Waits makes me roar with laughter and I'll take him anywhere with me! On my iPod... wicked London band called Super Nashwan, Carole King, Feist.

4 Whats the best souvenir you have from your travels?
Best souvenir is all the rocks, stones and feathers I've picked up on my travels.

5 What do you do when your not traveling and doing all that samba stuff?
Basically I make music and write music.

Greetings Zoe I'd like to ask you your impressions of 1st Cape Verde and 2nd Senegal? Thanks so much Laughing

I'd like to ask you your impressions of 1st Cape Verde and 2nd Senegal?
1st Cape Verde is really laid back and friendly. It's just a really easy place to travel in and it's stunningly beautiful as well.
Senegal... just hits you and assualts you as you walk down the street. Especially Dakar. It's just really full on but wonderful as well. In the rural areas it's quite different and the people are very, very kind and welcoming.

What other countries in Africa have you visited?
I've toured all around West Africa and South Africa, Zimbabwe and also North Africa to Morocco.

I heard you met Youssou N'Dour in Senegal? What is he like and did you get to go to one of his gigs?
Youssou N'Dour is amazing the charisma just pours out of him. He seems to have a lot of integrity as a musician and I really enjoyed hearing his gig on Ile de Goree. We went to a gig on that island and it was very intimate and powerful to see him in that setting, especially because he was performing on his own turf.

Cool HI ZOE - MY QUESTIONS ?
THANKS HB

1. WHATS THE BEST THING ABOUT UR JOB ?
It's a combination of meeting people and hearing their stories and being out in nature.

2. WHERE IS THE BEST DESTINATION COUNTRY? CITY ? / CONTINENT ?THAT U HAVE VISITED ? WHY ?
Almost impossible to pin down but... I loved Morocco. I went overland with my mum from Spain to Marrakech. The landscape, the people, the food, it's a wonderful combination of being very wild and very soft at the same time and not threatening.

3. WHICH DESTINATIONS ARE GOOD IN THE AUTUMN TO CHOOSE TO TRAVEL ?
Depends where you live in the world. For Europe... somewhere like Sicily - you can go there quite cheaply... depends what you want to do and see and what you want to experience. If you live in Britain then I'd say the Lake District or the Highlands of Scotland are really beautiful at that time of year. In the lakes you have the autumn leaves and in Scotland the heather is changing colour and the air is really crisp.

Hi Zoe! I just thought of a couple extra questions for you!

You said that you like to write and make music in your spare time. What instruments do you play and is your music available to purchase or download?

Thank you,

Cynthia

Hi Zoe! Thanks for taking the time to chat with us and answer our questions. My questions for you are: Thanks Zoe and good luck with your future projects!! [Cynthia

1. What was your first experience like working with Globetrekker? Are you lined up for any other episodes this season?
It was amazing and a huge learning curve - it was wonderful. The crew were absolutely fantastic and they made it really, really fun and gave me lots of good advice along the way. Yes, in fact I'm going off to the Caribbean, to film a trek around St. Lucia, Guadeloupe, Montserrat, and Martinique. We're leaving the day after tomorrow.

2. Is there a certain type of trinket or souvenir you pick up when you travel abroad?
Definitely a feather of a rock.

3. What city or country was featured in your showreel? Why did you choose that particular location and what did you do?
My showreel was done on a shoestring and I did it at Dalston Market in East London. I also did some mountain biking in the countryside just outside London and I was really helped by my friends Rob and Jonty who helped put the whole thing together for me.

4. Any words of inspiration for someone who wants to work for Globetrekker?
Don't spend too much on your showreel. Less is more. Genuinely listen to people who are telling you stories. And just go for it and have fun! And... don't take yourself too seriously. Laughing

hello zoe! what kind of stuff do people eat in sengal and cape verde? and did u get to eat any yucky food when u did the show?

Tons of meat and rice basically and if you're lucky some vegetables in Senegal. Then in Cape Verde lots of fish and fresh fruit delicious! As for unusual... there was this Palm Wine we tried with the Bassari in the bush in Senegal. It was like fermented... it made me feel a bit... I find it hard to describe it's beyond words. Then there was the Grog in Cape Verde. It's locally distilled sugar cane rum - it's like instant fire in your mouth. A bit like dragon fuel. You drink it and breathe fire afterwards!

And here's a few more questions from me... I watched Globe Trekker Senegal and Cape Verde and thought it was fantastic! But then again I'm biased Smile)) Thanks Zoe! Cool

1. How did you find the hospitality of local people in both countries?
Just wonderful in both places the people were really kind and open-hearted to us.

2. How important is music and dance to the people of Cape Verde and Senegal?
It's a way of life. There is not a separation it is totally integrated.

3. Looks like you and the crew tried every method of transport on offer... How did you find the the road trips?
The road trips were pretty hairy at times. But they were one of my favourite parts of the journey because you really got to meet people going about their every day lives.

4. How did you feel when your fellow passenger on that overland minibus trip offered you a "toothbrush"?
That guy was brilliant. He was so kind when we were filming on the bus and although we couldn't speak to each other in the same language we kind of got each other.

5. What was it like going wreck-diving in Cape Verde?
It was nerve-racking, thrilling, wonderful!

6. Who was the most inspiratonal person you met on the trip?
It's impossible to choose I met so many people. But I was particularly moved by Mustafa - a guy who had try to get to Spain by boat with 110 other people in the boat - they got stopped by the Moroccan coastal police who arrested everyone on the boat. Then they were deported back to Sengal.

I see you got your msc in ecology.

How to environmental concerns shape the way you travel and what advice would you have for us travellers in being more green?

That's a hard one... it's hard to say travel locally because I'm taking flights to travel to places to film. I'd say respect local people, their way of life, and the natural environment.

I have heard it's still dangerous to travel there is that true?

Yes I went there on tour in December - I was in a show about the abolition of Slavery. It was amazing to discover the country. And also I found family members who my mother had never met.

i've just come back from japan and it was amazing...monkeys in steam pools by mountains, craz architecture and a really different culture...have you been and if you have how was it for you?
I haven't been - it sounds amazing though!

Are you into extreme sports? I am a windsurfer and a climber
I wouldn't say I was totally into extreme but love doing stuff outdoors. I've learnt to dive recently and I've just done my PADI certificate. Passing it felt like an extreme sport because the visibility at Wraysbury was so bad.

where would you most like to go and as a consevationist what animals would you most like to see?
I love whales and dolphins - you can see them off the coast of Scotland so that would be grand.
