Hey Adela! Here's a couple of questions for you:

1. How is your tacky xmas decoration collection?

2. Can you tell us about any interesting Spanish xmas traditions. I heard you had to eat a lot of grapes at New Years?

3. What have you been working on since the last web chat?

4. Any interesing places you've travelled to?

5. What are your plans for 2010? Any more Globe Trekkers on the way?

Thanks and keep up the great work! Laughing

1. It's growing year by year. Latest addition is Santa Claus hugging a surf board with a Hawaiin garland round his neck. Of course I got it in Hawaii.

2. Yes for the last 12 seconds of the year you have to eat a grape. And if you can swallow them in time that means you will have a good year. Of course everyone ends up kissing their relatives with a mouthful of grapes!

3. OK last year I was working on a series called "Spanish People Around The World" for a Spanish TV channel. And of course I kept travelling with Globe Trekker - Madrid City Guide and Turkey 2.

4. Iceland was stunning , beautiful landscape and a very special light. And even tho it's such a cold place people are much warmer than you'd think - very welcoming and hospitable. And Cote d'Azur, Monaco during the F1 race, and it was so glamourous - everything looks so rich - lots of fancy people on the streets, I felt a bit out of place but it was good fun aswell!

5. Yeah definitely. Nigeria in a couple of months. Pilot always leaves a few good surprises around the year.

Thanks Route 66 Smile

Hello Adela!

I've been reading your new blog with great interest!

1. Did you enjoy working with Ian Wright?

2. What was the best thing about Cuba?

3. What was the worst?

4. Are you into Cuban music?

5. Are you on Twitter yet?

Thank you Very Happy

1. Yes I always working with him he's a very funny guy and it's very easy to work with him because he loves what he does and makes you enjoy it very much aswell.

2. Well everything really. The people are fantastic, and people dancing gave made me want to learn salsa - the stories about the revolution, about Che Guevara, about Fidel Castro. Also you cna see nowadays there's 2 very different positions - people who like things as they are and people who hope for a new beginning. That makes you feel like you are in the middle of a constant battle and you are very aware of everything that's happening around you.

3. The food is terrible. Besides a fantastic restaurant in Havanna called La Guarida. But I have to say in the house, when we were there a huge hurricane had just hit and completely destroyed all the vegetables and fruit - so the whole island was having to suffer food rations.

4. I like Cuban music and when I was there I really enjoyed listening to it and singing along. But I have to say I don't usually listen to it at all.

5. Not yet but I will be after this web chat Smile

Thanks Technogeek! P.S. I'm very glad you enjoy my blog - I hope everyone will enjoy it - btw the address is:

Hello, my name is Alex, and I'm 16 year of age.

For a while, I've wanted to be a Globe Trekker.
Any tips of how to achieve my goal (classes I should take, etc)?

Hello Alex! Travelling is always necesary if you want to become a travel presenter it opens your mind and makes you more independent, and helps you to grow. But then studying something related with media is very helpful as well. Some acting classes to gain confidence are good idea too. Most important thing, never lose the dream because it's very hard to work as a travel presenter but it does happen... sometimes! Smile

q1 - are you on Twitter yet?
q2 - whats your favorite travel gadget?
q3 - best travel book you ever read?
q4 - if you could travel back in time where would you like to go explore?
q5 - best GT yet?
q6 - do you prefer being in front of the camera or behind the scenes producing?

thank you!!!

1 - No but will be shortly Smile
2 - I always travel with a travel guide and a photo camera.
3 - I'm just looking at my bookshelves... Journey to the Centre of Earth, by Jules Verne - imagination is the best destiny.
4 - Maybe to America before colonialism I've always been very interested in South American pre-colonial history and I think it must have been beautiful and at the same time terrible in some areas like Mexico. But Macchu Piccu must have been built up by a very interesting culture - I'd like to see how it was.
5. The GT episode I like the most was the Madrid City Guide. But Crete was beautiful and everything went so well on the shoot it felt more like a holiday. Best one I've seen is Globe Trekker Mongolia. I've never been to Mongolia - and when I see that it's one of my dream destinations.
6. If I had to choose I'd probably choose presenting. But the combination of both for me at the moment is perfect. However, presenting doesn't allow you to get involved in the creative process - although it's always fun and everyone takes so much care of you and it's always very enjoyable. Although producing, even tho it's stressful and hard sometimes, it's very rewarding when you do a good job.

Thanks Globetrekkie!

Hola Adela! Questions....

what are your favourite travel spots in Spain? And wheres the best places to surf? Got any other favourite sports?
when did you meet Ian Wright? Whats he like? Have you met any other Globe Trekker presenters?

Gracias Very Happy

- Travel spots in Spain? Asturias if you want to get lost and enjoy nature and fantastic people and food. The Balearic Islands if you want to enjoy beautiful beaches and clean water and Andalucia if you want to have fun and learn about typical Spanish culture and history.

- Surfing? Mundaka is the best spot in Europe without doubt. It's in the Basque country and only 40 mins. from my home. But it's challenging, packed on the good days, and it only breaks with very specific conditions so it's very hard to get it right. So maybe I should say the Canary Islands because it's constant, it's so much warmer than in the North of Spain and there's plenty of spots to choose from. BUt be careful with the locals because they are tough!

- Other favourite sports: I love skiing and snorkelling.

- I met Ian Wright in Hong Kong in 2005 when I was working as an assistant producre in Serious VIP Weekends With Ian Wright. I was waiting next to the van for the whole crew to come in and he was the last one to come down from his room and when I saw him I think I got all red I had been watching him on Globe Trekker and I loved the series! But he's so natural and friendly with everybody that after a couple of days I felt like I'd known him for a long time.

- No I've never met any other Globe Trekker presenters.

Gracias Smile

Has she ever climbed to the top of those mountains with Ian?

If you're referring to my blog story - yeah we went to Sierra Maestra mountains in Cuba to film a beautiful story about the revolution times. We met some old geezers who were lovely and had been musicians for Fidel Castro. THe next morning we climbed up to where their rebel base camp was, up in the mountains. We visited Fidel's hut - the nursery and their Radio Rebelde set up. We were filming all the way thru and it was very challenging because the climbing was very hard and it was very hot. But we loved what we saw and the story was fantastic, and the landscape was beautiful. Our guide, who didn't understnad any English, was on the shot with Ian, interacting with him and every time we had to repeat a take the got very angry because the had to climb up and down the mountain on the same spot. It got to a point where he thought we were just trying to annoy him.

How easy is it to implement a creative career into your travel ambitions?

It's quite easy in a way to be creative when you travel because you're visiting new places you've never been too. Reactions are natural because you get surprised by what you see and who you meet. You totally fulfil your travel ambitions because you do things and you meet people you wouldn't do as a normal traveller. I always feel very lucky when I travel for work although shoots don't allow you to stay for a long time in the same places and that means you feel like you could have got more out of it if you had had some time to chill, have a drink, have a stroll. So everywhere I travel for work I always feel like I have to revisit.

What would you say is your biggest accomplishment so far while traveling?

It's very difficult to choose one thing. While travelling for work my accomplishment is always doing a good job - and that's my biggest aim. But just travelling it's so good - just learining about an intersting person or visiting a beautiful national park - things as simple as that are great achievements for me.

What place surprised you the most while traveling?

On my last GT shoot we went to Hasenkyes in Turkey - it's a beautiful little town that sits next to the Tigres River and it completly looks like it's been taken out of the bible. But as beautiful as it is it's endangered because the Turkish govt. wants to construct a dam that would cover the whole place in water. I was very touched by this. A place that had been sitting there for so long that has such an important part in the history of conquering and it really looks like it's been there for so long. It impressed me it could just disappear because of these development plans of just one group of people.

where in your travels would you say left you in awe and touched your heart the most?

When I travel for surfing I usually stay in a boat or one hotel where I can get to the surf easily. And that's pretty much what I do, just surfing. When I was surfing in Sumbawa the roads had no pavement there were a lot of kids out of school and people there were pretty poor. It's an area that has suffered a few earthquakes over the last couple of years aswell. I always think it's a bit selfish to go to these places, enjoy the surf, and not care about anything else. There was a project by some Basque surfers last year who also felt this way, they travelled to India with lots of money and material and they started up a surf school and nursery where they also taught English. I've always felt like I should collaborate with this kind of initiative. That was something really interesting that more of us should do.

Ok. Silly but here goes: I'm a big fan of packing light when I go on adventures. What tips can you pass along about not taking the kitchen sink when traveling? Or, What's the scariest part of traveling for you?

I have to admit that I am very bad at packing aswell! I always pack the wrong shoes and many more clothes than I can put on, or things that I don't evey need! This is my biggest hurdle I have to overcome. Maybe when I'm 60 I'll be a good packer.

Scariest part of travelling? Packing! Cultures are so different - in some countries doing something that feels very natural to you, could be an insult. I'm always very worried about that - about doing things that could annoy or offend people around me. Also not knowing how what's going on around you sometimes you feel like you don't really know the culture or how to move around. But that's a feeling that usually goes away after a couple of days in a country. Luckily I never had a bad experience.

How long does it take for you to feel homesick, if at all?
How did you end up becoming a host for Globe Trekker?
What's the weirdest food you've eaten during your travels?

Feeling homesick depends a lot on the people I'm travelling with. It can take 2 days, 15 days or 2 months. But I have to admit I never feel bad before coming home. When the day comes I always look forward to being in my place with my people.

I became a GT after meeting Ian Wright in Hong Kong. I asked him to help me get an interview as a producer. I didn't get the job at that time but I got a call 3 months later from Pilot telling me they were looking for a new presenter, and asked me if I wanted to apply. I did a short showreel and I got the job! Yay!

Probabaly whale meat in Iceland. It's very similar to cow meat - but it's very controversial.
