RAUF wrote:
Hello! Here it goes my questions and I'm most certain there's gonna be too many of them! Smile

1 - Being on TV, presenting a TV show that the whole world can watch, presenting another show in your own country... How do you feel having people making comments on you and wanting to know things about you? You're not (yet) this big famous person, but does it bother you somehow? And are people recognizing you on the streets already?

Since there are so many questions I did a bit of homework in advance and I already have a few answers for Rauf.

Hi Rauf! Thanks so much for your questions and for all those nice comments! I read them all! Regarding your first question, I really like it when people make comments on my work, if they are constructive critics, of course. You can always take something positive out of it. I learn what people like or don’t like about my work and that helps me to improve.

2 - How many countries have you gone to so far and and how often do you travel abroad?

I’ve already been to many countries in Europe, to the US, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Brazil and Argentina. In Northern Africa, I visited Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt. I did a wonderful safari in Tanzania and spent some time in Zanzibar. I had never been to Asia until I took place in Reel Race and I travelled through the Philippines, Macao, Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea. I lived for a year in Australia and also visited New Zealand. I work in Singapore for a couple of months and I´ve been to Fiji and Maldives on surf trips. I think that’s it. I usually travel twice a year on holiday or surfing trips and then it depends what kind of projects I get involved in.

3 - When was the first time you went abroad? How old were you then? And what country?

I think it was to Holland and Belgium where I spend about 20 days with my family on holidays.

4 - You say Surfing is your favorite sport. Was it too hard to learn it? Did it take too long for you to be standing on the board? Some times I feel like learning it, but sharks are my fear! When you surf do you think about them? I gotta stop watching too much Discovery Channel!

Yes, surfing is my favourite sport although I love many other water sports as well. It didn’t take me too long to stand on the board, but it did take quite a bit of time to ride a wave. At the beginning is very hard, specially if the water is cold! But I had some friends who were learning to surf as the same time and we all had so much fun. Here in Spain there are no sharks, so I do think about them anytime I travel to sharky places, like Australia. In those places I never surf alone and… I try to think there’s a very small chance of being bitten!

The questions below are a bit more personal, so you don't need to answer them if you don't want to:

5 - I think everyone knows your age, but just out of curiosity, when is your birthday?

6 - I think I've heard you saying on TV that you have a brother and a sister. How younger or older then you are they? Can you tell me their names?

7 - And the last question, not that I want it to be the last one, I 've made too many of them already! Embarassed So, do you consider yourself a religious person anyhow? Even if you have your own definition of God or Heaven and your own beliefs... A "yes" or "no" would be enough.

I apologise for the many questions so if you can't answer them all just pick one or two and I'll be fine. Wink

One thing I'd like to request the people who's setting up this live chat is in case I'm don't manage to join it at the scheduled date, could you please post a transcription of it here so everyone who is unable to join it can read it later?

Thanks and take care!

Some of my questions:

1. How long have you been surfing and what was the biggest wave you've every ridden?

I’ve been surfing for about 5 years now and the biggest wave I´ve ever ridden probably is the one you can see at the youtube video on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1wbgTwctj0. It was in the Maldives and it must be about 2 meters high.

2. You participated in a Reality show a few years ago called "Reel Race" where documentary filmakers race against time to shoot, edit, and complete mini-documentarys..and submit them in time for judging. What was your film about and how did you do on the show? Did you win? Smile

I did 6 minifilms on different countries in 5 weeks. The last one I did was one about the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea and... yes, I won! I had a great time!

3. What was the scariest thing you've ever done in your travels so far?

The scariest thing was skydiving!! I was terrified! But in the end it was fun. You can have a look at it at the youtube video.

4. If you were to chose one country to visit over and over in your lifetime, what country would that be?

Uhh... that´s a difficul one! There are so many great places in the world... I loved Australia and I made many friends there so... maybe that would be the one.

5. What's the grossiest thing you've every eaten? Sad

It wasn´t in a show... I was on holidays in the South of Portugal, I asked for an orange juice at a little place at the beach and when I had almost drunk it all I realised it was full of worms!!!! The oranges were too old...

Hi Adela,

My question is:

If you had the chance to co-host a GlobeTrekker episode with another host from the show, who would it be with and where would you like to go?

Hi Cynthia! Nice to talk to you again! That´s a good question! I would love to co-host a Globe Trekker show with Ian. I already worked with him a few years ago as a assistant producer and he was sooo much fun. It didn´t seem like work at all; it was like being on holidays because he makes everything so funny. I don´t know where I would go though... maybe to Alaska, because I know he likes cold places and I would love to visit it anyway.

Thanks for chatting and happy 2008! Smile

Shocked Hi Adela! My question is this, How long are you and the crew usually in a country when filming a one hour episode of Globe Trekker? Looking forward to the chat tomorrow!

The two shows I´ve done so far were half hour shows, and we spent between 8 to 10 days away. But Producer and Director always spend double as much as the rest, because they prepare everything in advance. For a one hour show the shoot usually take 20 to 25 days. Right Helen?

I went to a German school and I leart German, English, French and Spanish of course... but Basque is my next goal. It´s a very difficult language, very unique and interesting, but soooooo hard to learn.

Hey Adela,

Just a few questions...

What was the funniest thing that has happened whilst travelling and what's been your high and your low as a globe trekker presenter?

The funniest thing happend in Papua New Guinea. In the jungle they belive that the spirits of the fallen soldiers of the second world war still live between the trees. When I was there, I was running through the track and I saw two young girls carring woods. When the saw me they they thought I was a ghost and they started screaming and running!! They looked terrified!! When I got the to village and they realised I was a normal person, we all started to laugh so much!!

As an air stewardess, i have to ask, what is your favourite airline? and where do you feel most at home when not in Spain?

it's been great seeing you on, and look forward to some more of your shows.

Hi Adela,

I have two more questions:

1. When did you first get bit by the travel bug?
Ohhh... Probbably when I was a teenager. There was a show on TV where hundred teenagers from Spain and South America where selected to travel to South America for more than a month to visit places like Machu Pichu and leard many things from experts. It is still on, it is called The Quetzal Route and I dreamt about being selected. I never was... so I started traveling by myself.

2. Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for an aspiring Globetrekker host? Smile

As I told you before, I think you are doing the right thing. Just keep your enthusiasm and try to be fun and, the most important thing, have fun.

Thanks!!

Last year I travelled to Ilha Grande, near Rio de Janeiro. Itá a beautiful little island where traffic is not permitted. There are no big hotels and there´s the most beautiful beach I´ve ever been to: Lopez Mendez. It´s huge, untouched. I would´t say the island is a secret place, but deffinetly it´s magic. Smile

So how are the beaches and waves in your native Spain?

Have you ever been to the Alhambra?

There are many types of beaches. Calm crystal waters in the Mediterranean and wild rugged beaches in the North. Waves are great in the North Coast and fantastic in the Canary Islands. Very near to my hous is Mundaka, one of the best waves in the world. The only problem is that the winter is too cold!!

Yes I´ve been to the Alhambra and it is one of the most impressive human constructions I´ve ever seen. I think it should have been selected as one of the new seven wonders of the world
