Can't wait for tomorrow's session!!! Very Happy More questions from me Very Happy

--What's your Favorite color?
--What's your favorite cuisine?....Italian, French, Cajun, Asian?

--If destiny didn't lead you down the path to becoming a world traveller on Globetrekker, what would you be doing? Teacher?...actress?...Doctor?

--Have you ever thought about doing some acting or doing a show of your own?...or maybe participate in a reality show like the Amazing Race.

--You have a great personality and seem so at ease in front of the camera. Any advice for some of us "camera shy" people? Laughing

--Most of the presenters had to submitt a SHOWREEL to pilotguides in order to work as a presenter. What was your showreel about?

--You climbed a mountain in Africa during the Best Treks show awhile back. Was that the first time you ever climbed a mountain that high? How high was that mountain exactly? You made it look easy, but i know it wasn't.

--Did you get to keep that 100 million year old fossil you found in Beruit? At first, i thought that was staged....but your reaction to finding it was Priceless. Thus, i figured that it was a real find.

Hi Megan,

I really like your work on Globe Trekker, and I think it’s a great show overall – the best general travel show I’ve seen. It manages, through it’s style and choice of presenters, to be informative and have warmth and excitement. At the same time it avoids being patronising, or too much about the presenter rather than the destination (as those celebrity hosted travel shows can do). Anyway, some questions:

1) How much prep do you do before you go to a place to film the show? Is everything very carefully pre-planned, such as all places you stay, visit, and all the people you speak to?

2) When travelling for GT, do you enjoy it all the time, or do you get sick of having the crew following you everywhere? Put another way, how does travelling with a crew to make a show compare to travelling purely for leisure? And on a related note, do you do much travelling outside of the tv show anymore?

3) Do you think there is a bit of a dilemma to the preponderance of modern travel – a downside, so to speak? For example, some are concerned that international travel & tourism can dilute the “cultural diversity” of the world. Then there’s the contribution airline travel purportedly makes towards climate change. Or do you think the benefits clearly outway any disadvantages there may be?

4) I read that you’re now married. I wonder, where did you meet your husband? With all your travels, I think it would be funny if you met him over the back fence, or split coffee on him at the Starbucks across the road.

5) Finally, some questions about pastimes: What do you watch on tv, apart from Globe Trekker? What’s your favourite pastime, apart from travel? I see you studied philosophy at University; what areas did you study most (can you recall!) and do you still take an interest in philosophy and politics? Are you interested in this year’s US elections?

Thanks for your time.

Steve

1. Other than being a full time mother, is being a Globe Trekker host your only paying job?

2. Do you have a blooper reel?

Hi Helen!

You always do an excellent job! Very Happy

some questions for Megan:
1. You said that you would like to go to Bhutan. Which others destinations are in your list of places to visit?
I've been pestering Ian Cross all day to send me to Bhutan! I'd really like to go to Ethiopia, Brazil cos I'm just across the border living in Argentina right now.
2. The Beirut Tvshow was recorded before an outbreak of hostilities between Israeli and Hezbollah. How did you experience it?
It was actually really sad - as people were really welcoming us and telling us how peaceful their country had changed. Then all that changed in the space of 2 weeks.
3. What's the soundtrack of your travels?
Let's see - it has to be a Globe Trekker CD - we play the Globe Trekker intro over and over again wherever we go... Smile))
4. Tell us your experience with the "Uniquely Singapore" campaign (Singapore Tourism Board).
It was fabulous - really, really loved Singapore. Best thing was the food, I ate, and ate and ate!
5. Some years ago you said that if you’re home for more than 3 or 4 weeks and haven't gone anywhere, you get really anxious. And now? How do you find globe trekking fits in with your ordinary life and family?
I still travel - I just stay in places for longer periods of time. Hence Argentina... it started as a vacation and then went on from there.
6. I think that you have some sort of souvenir from the places you visited... a favourite souvenir or very special for some reason?
Laughing Laughing
I don't buy many souvenirs but I generally collect some kind of textile or cloth - I have a closet full of different textiles, e.g. sari from India, etc. etc. BTW - If this is Teresa I LOVE the dance video it CRACKS ME UP!!!! Cool Man am I goofy!!!

Have you met anyone on your travels doing the show that you still keep in contact with?

Yes - I'm a pretty extroverted person and I'm always inviting people over but... I'm always travelling so I'm rarely home. Yes I love keeping in touch with people.

Is there a place you have traveled that you feared for your life? Would you return there again someday?
No, not really. Pilot Productions makes sure that we are safe always. Even recently when we went to Colombia - we always do a lot of of research to prepare.

What is the strangest food you have eating on your travels?

I think it is the fruit bat in Micronesia only because the chef tied a yellow ribbon around its neck!

Tricky question - I really love countries that offer tea to visitors like England, Japan, or mate in Argentina!

What was the scariest experience you have had during your many travels? (Though this one up while watching the Sri Lanka/Maldives programme with Yes! That's the one absolutely terrifying!

Hi Megan!

If I'm not mistaken, you now have a child. I'm 34 and starting to hear my biological clock ticking... And so I would like to know, how do you deal with motherhood AND being a travel show host at the same time? Question
It seems to me like it must be a tough juggling act!
Well luckily Pilot has been very supportive and my daughter comes with me on many of my trips. She had her 1st passport when she was 6 months old. But then my downtime is my downtime.

Also, since you travel so much for work, where do you go when you're on vacation? (or DO YOU go anywhere?...) Question

Thank You!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

When I'm not travelling for the show - I travel to see friends and family cos I miss them.

As an up and coming reporter/host, I am inspired by your down-to-earth, energetic, witty reporting style. I strive to find my own personal style that makes my reports as engaging, experiential and story-like as yours.

1) What is the process you go through when reporting on a location? How much of it is pre-staged and pre-written? And by whom? jointly you and your producers?...

2) How do you absorb all the key points/facts? Cue cards, memorization, rehearsing over and over but not memorizing?...any tips there?

3) What do you look for in a story or location? How do you contribute to finding an angle/writing the story/picking the locations?

Thank you for your input.

HI MEGAN! Thank you for taking the time to join us this Sunday!! One of the very first Globetrekker shows that i watched was your West India Episode & the Hawaii show. After these two, i was hooked...and have been watching Globetrekker ever since. Your my Favorite presenter! I have a few questions.

1. This is one of my favorite quotes: "Life isn't about the number of breaths you take. It's about the moments in life that take your breath away!" In all your travels not just for globetrekker, but all your travels.....has there ever been a moment that just took your breath away?
I'm jealous that you can actually surf. I've tried and have tried again. Moments? So many. 1st waking up in the White Desert in Egypt when the sun was rising the colors were incredible.

2. For this Northern Italy show, u climbed a 45-foot icewall. I felt bad for you because you looked absolutely TERRIFIED! Was that the scariest thing you've ever done or just one of them.
Yes, I was TERRIFIED. I always try to look really cool, ha, ha! Smile))

3. I noticed that you do a lot of filming underwater. Was it a requirment for you (and the other GT presenters) to be SCUBA certified in order to work for Globetrekker?
After my 3rd show in Egypt I decided to stay on and get Scuba training in the Sinai Peninsula and it just happened to come in really handy for the job.

4. How did you become involved with DeepEndDining.com?
A friend of mine Eddie Lin - aka the man who will eat anything - asked me to be a part of it.

5. One thing I love about watching your shows is your interaction with the locals for each country your in. Has there ever been a time when people were not too receptive to you and crew? The one that comes to mind was the Arab Gulf States show, being that it was only a few yrs after 9/11.
There have been places. Once in Sri Linka we were in the Tamil territory and there was a very secluded beach where the locals were very welcoming but... the surfers were not cos they didn't want us to broadcast on tv their secret surf spot.

6. I think it was the Scotland show, but you & your crew spent the night in a castle that supposedly was haunted. Did anything happen during your stay there? Smile
Laughing
Nothing happened but... we had all scared ourselves so much filming that we all decided to sleep in 1 room just in case....

More Questions:

1. Would you like to write a book about your travel experiences?
Maybe I don't know... perhaps but haven't really thought about it.
2. You said that you enjoy watching Justine when she gets really angry about something. Because you do get angry when you're traveling - what do you get so angry?
I'm a pretty laid back person. And no matter what when you travel things happen and I like the way Justine expresses herself. Not much makes me angry.
3. Do you read travel books? What travel authors or books might you recommend and/or have influenced you?
My favourite travel writer in Paul Theroux
4. What is your advice to travellers?
Follow the yellow brick road!!!
5. What are the two most important things we should bring on our travels?
Your passport and your toothbrush.
6. Where was the most hospitable place you’ve been to?
Almost every country I've been to people have been very hospitable. Tricky question...
7. In Treks in a Wild World tvshow you said that if you was eaten by wild animals while you was sleeping then your sister could have your music record collection. What you have in your collection?
Globe Trekker CD!!! Just kidding! Blues, jazz, the Beatles and a Brazilian musician Hermeto Pascal
8. Did a mosquito, spider etc ever bite you on your travels?
Thousands of mosquitos have bitten me. There's a little Megan blood on every contintent!
9. What was your favourite trip?
Such a hard question. Recently I really loved visiting Colombia.
10. Which your favourite tv shows?
I don't watch much TV but I like travel shows by Anthony Bourdain - not sure how you spell that
11. Who do you love to travel with and why?
With my mum we've been to China, Vietnam, Morocco, and Spain, and France together.

Dear Megan,

A big hug and a big hello from Canada! Smile Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us today. I really wanted to go down to NYC to meet you but my student budget could not afford it. I hope that you've been having a good time at the New York Times Travel show and that you got the chance to meet lots of your fans.

I love your energy and sense of humour, and I'm always so excited when I see you on TV. You always make me smile so a big thank you! You kick butt! Never change and keep having fun.

My first question is: When are you coming to Canada?! I would love to meet you!! You have lots of fans up here!

Can you believe I've never been to Canada! But when I do I'll look you up.

My second question is as follows. I recently got engaged over the X-mas holidays and was wondering if you could recommend a good spot that you've travelled to to go on our honeymoon? My boyfriend and I love adventure, backpacking and the outdoors so we would love to go somewhere where we can do a lot of hiking and other outdoor activities such as camping and canoeing/kayaking. Any ideas?
Congratulations!!!! How about Argentina? Or Northern Italy, they have great food and brilliant mountains like the Dolomites.

My third question: Did you see my LA showreel?? I'm curious as I found out you were in LA recently and I was wondering if you had seen it on the community page and what you thought about it!! No worries if you haven't, I know you are really busy!! As I said, I was just curious so I had to ask.
Hey Cynthia - I've been watching videos on You Tube and I think they're great. Can I have YOUR autograph?

My fourth question: Any words of inspiration for someone who wants to work for Pilot Guides? I am an avid traveller and I am a huge fan of the show and I would love to be part of the Pilot team Smile
Keep pestering Ian Cross! Don't give up...

Thanks again for answering my questions. You are really great and I hope you get everything you desire out of life. Best of luck and safe travels!!

Your biggest fan!!!,

Cynthia Very Happy

I hope we hear back from Megan again later this week. The session was just too short...about 20 min...seemed to be over before it started. Crying or Very sad

I guess she was at the Travel show in NY at the same time, so i understand her probably being pre-occupied with her surroundings during the chat. oh well...

HBboy, Megan said she would be back so I'm sure she'll keep her word Smile I always find these chats go by so fast too!! We should make them 2 hours instead of 1! hehe.

We were online for about 45 mins. but it seemed like only 10! The show was really, really busy so we couldn't make it much longer. Megan is travelling again this week and doing voice-overs for us on Globe Trekker L.A. But... as soon as she gets some time she's promised to log-on again and answer some more questions. Watch this space... Cool

Thanks again for making all those great efforts to e mailing me the picture that I took with you at Bryant park last year. The Globe Trekker crew at the New York Times show were all so nice.

I forgot to ask you on the New York Times travel show (How come you moved from New York to Argentina)? Hope you and your family are enjoying the country. You are so nice you can fit in any culture in a minute.

I hope you will move back to New York someday.

Thanks for remembering me and the guessing correctly my nickname at work. You have a super duper personality and memory. I did not tell you this at the show because I was so shocked that you have ESP also!!!

Take care, love Always

While we are waiting live web chat Megan McCormick Part 2 ... I would like to make a suggestion and who knows, maybe Megan could give us her opinion about it - I think Megan and Ian Wright together in the same travel would be brilliant tv show - what do you think? any project in a drawer? Wink

I would like to see 2 presenters interacting but they would have to pay them both when one could do the scene .Maybe we could get Cynthia Twisted Evil to do it she could do some behind the scenes clips and act as porter for the crew ,gaining a bit of work experience. Very Happy

A "blog" is short term for "web log". Blogs can function as a personal online diary and/or provide commentary or news on a particular subject. They typically consist of text and images and will often include links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. I started a blog last year (I only have 5-6 entries though - haven't written in a long time) but if you want to get an idea of what a blog looks like, you can visit it at: http://chosebin.blogspot.com/. A "vlog" is short term for "video log". They are simply blogs whose medium is video. I haven't done many vlogs but you can find many on YouTube. Many of them serve as personal diaries and some provide commentary on an event/experience.

Hope this helps,

Cynthia Smile

Doh! <smacks self in head for stupid question>

Sorry, Cynthia, I was thrown by the phrase 'VLOG'. I'm not familiar with it, and I’m not used to seeing 'Blog' in all CAPS either, so I thought you were referring to some production/techy things - like when movie cineastes talk about GRIPS and BEST BOYS and whatnot.

I'm well aware of what a blog is, and indeed I have one of my own that I just started a few days ago. http://parkesweb.blogspot.com/

Funnily enough, in my one entry so far, I discuss the word “blog” and talk about how I find the whole idea of blogging kind of odd (not that it’s stopped me joining in). My blog’s not going to be so much in the online diary “here’s what I’ve been doing” tradition, but more just me waffling on pretentiously about things. I thought I was lazy not having posted second entry yet, but at least I’m ahead of your post rate.

hehe, ok no worries and sorry about the CAPS Smile Sometimes I write those words in CAPS and I don't know why. Thanks for writing in my guestbook by the way! I will take a look at your blog page soon too and drop a note. Smile Take care!

Yes, wayyyy too quiet! Unfortunately, the local television station that used to air Pilot Guides every weeknight only airs the show now once a week. So sad! I guess I'm totally out of the loop now when it comes to new episodes!! Sad

Yep all OK here. Busy as ever - got a shoot out in China for World Cafe Asia with Bobby Chinn and several other shows in edit.

Check out our TV schedule this month - there's some cool stuff on there for free.

Cool
