Join us on Thursday May 29, 2008 @ 2.00pm EST (7.00pm GMT) for a live web chat with Globe Trekker presenter: BRIANNA BARNES. If you have any burning questions for Brianna, get posting here now...

Brianna is a proud Canadian with a zest for adventure: "I find the things that I regret most in life are the things I didn't do because of planned budget or fear", says Brianna. "Try anything once… unless it involves a large, aggressive animal that weighs 2,000 lbs and has horns."

Hi Brianna,

I'm gonna be the first to ask a question...

1. What is your favorite journey?

2. What is your favorite destination?

3. What is your best travel experience ever?

1. My favourite journey is the one I'm on now called life - because it's never-ending. Almost... cos we do die.

2. My favourite destination is home because when I've been travelling for a long time you always just appreciate it that much more - and in a different way.

3. Best travel experience ever? That's a hard question because there's no best experience they're just different. But I seem to make the most memorable memories in Asia. Hard to explain in a short answer - I find when you're there foreigners treat other foreigners the way people should treat others all the time. So... you just experience human relations in a better way.

1. Spare time huh! Don't remember when the last time was that I had spare time! But, when I can I love watching movies and going to the theatre.

2. No I am not married.

BTW - What do you do in your spare time? Apart from holding a towel around your neck Cool

Hey Brianna,

Here's a couple of questions for you...

1. Which country do you prefer - Honduras or El Salvador?

2. Haven't seen this show but... did you get to eat anything tastier than fried squid balls?

3. Can you speak any foreign languages?

1. I think they both have an equal place in my heart. But I had a lot of fun in Honduras cos we did a lot of adventure sports there - on cammera and off. For example we went white-water rafting, scuba-diving and we did a submarine trip. We went down 2,000 feet to a deep sea trench - it was really neat.

2. It wasn't really a food show - but we ate some really yummy food there, especially pancakes - pronounced pancake-eeees - which I thrived on.

3. Yeah I can say pancake-ees (fluent Honduras and El Salvadorean) - I can also speak French and a few words in Japanese.

Hello Brianna! It's so nice to see a Canadian on Globetrekker! Congrats! I've read about you in the Montreal Gazette - unfortunately, I haven't seen your GT episode yet but from what I've read, you sound like a pretty cool Canadian chick. I wish you the best with your future projects.

1. Where has Globetrekker inspired you to travel?
Sorry to be so vague but I think Globe Trekker inspired me to travel the Earth... Even Antarctica, I think it would be so sweet to say... Yeah I've been there!

2. What was your first experience like working with Globetrekker?
It was amazing - I learned so much, not only about the countries I was in but also presenting and connecting with people. I think if you travel you just know those connections you make will always be with you.

3. Are you lined up for any other GT episodes this season or next?
I don't know - that's a question for the Series Producer - but I'd love to! I really want to get out of New York city, there's too many pigeons here.

4. I am a big fan of Project Runway. What was it like to meet Heidi and be on the show?
(FYI - Project Runway is a reality show in the U.S. and Canada (they do fashion designers and help them launch their careers). The show is lots of fun and it's great fun to work with designers who are untouched because they aren't jaded yet. Not that big successful ones are... Smile But... they have to worry a lot more about marketing and the business side of things. Whereas on Project Runway it concentrates more on the creative and what's in the designer's heart. As for Heidi, she is just as sweet and beautiful as you think she might be.

5. I read on the Angie's Model and Talent website that you reside in Ottawa. What is your favourite place to eat out in Ottawa?
Not going to lie... my favourite place to eat is The Keg. The steaks there are great! Not to mention their Cosmos. And I like to hang out with my friends at Grace O'Malley's.

6. Are you a Leafs or Habs fan? Smile
(FYI- They are hockey teams). Neither! I'm not that cool - I'm one of those chicks that says "GO BLUE TEAM!".

Thanks Cynthia - great chatting with you!

Hello Brianna,

Here's my questions...
Very Happy

1. What music do you take on your travels (what's on your iPod)?
I have my entire CD collection on my iPod. As to what I listen to, it depends where I am. But, I have been guilty of sitting down in a temple and playing Cold Play.

2. How does modelling compare with acting - which do you like best?
Modelling and acting are both in the Arts and I don't think I could have done one without the other. Modelling will always hold a place of respect for me but right now acting is nourishing my soul.

3. I read you are studying Journalism and Environmental Sciences. Do you plan to make a career in acting or journalism?
I don't know I'm just a crazy gal in the world, trying to make a path. I want to do it all!

4. What were your first impressions of life in New York?
At first I hated it. But then you get addicted to the convenience of the city and that you can get anything you want at any time of the day or night. But now I go away and I miss it... but not the pigeons!

5. Do you ever get mistaken for an American?
Yes all the time. But it's my fault because I've had room mates in the past from the southern states and I picked up their "twang". But that happens to me wherever I go - I kind of collect accents.

Thank you Technogeek and maybe we'll do a Globe Trekker in Slough!

There was lots of funny stuff that happened during the shoot. I don't know if it was a blooper per se but... I was talking to one of the vulcanologists on Santa Ana Volcano in El Salvador and I made a joke about how the gases that seep out of the volcano was comparable to the gases that seem to seep out of my family Laughing

Hey Brianna!

Thanks soooo much!

1. Can you describe a typical day in the life of a Globe Trekker tv host when you're on a shoot?
Well you wake up at 5.00 am. You get the day's schedule and then eat what you can - while can - before the bus leaves for the shoot location. Then I purge my brain for what I feel about every situation we're going to do - and probably do some kind of strenuous physical activity for about 5 hours. And then you get all the historical facts for the next day's shoot, learn them and try to still be able to speak English. Have dinner. Then try to fall asleep in a bizarre bed. And that's at probably about midnight. And it all again in a second!

2. How long did it take to shoot GT Honduras and El Salvador?
It took 3 weeks.

3. What's your best memory of filming Globe Trekker?
Besides the pancake-ees after a long day of hiking... swimming with the dolpins because when I was with them I felt as if that's what it would feel like if I swam with God, or whatever you pick is for your spiritual energy. That's really my favourite memory.

4. Do you prefer modelling, studying, acting or TV presenting?
Well give me different things... but presenting is neat because I get to be me and experience everything without worrying about false eyelashes, makeup, or lines filled with emotional preparation.

5. If you could choose a destination for the next Globe Trekker shoot - where would you go? Why?
I would like to go to New Zealand, mainly because I'm a Lord of The Rings freak. And, they have a lot of adventure sports there, and sheep! Or, I'd like to go to Singapore and witness the Happy Toilet Campaign. I'll just explain that... they have an initiative to have clean public restrooms so they have "Restroom Monitors" that go around checking the cleanliness of the facilities - and the cleanest one wins the prize for the Happiest Toilet. And... also chewing gum is illegal there. It's like the only illegal thing I'd wanna do... chew gum in Singapore. Very Happy

6. What tips would you give to aspiring travel tv presenters?
I would say don't be afraid to try. So many people stop before they start. And, read, read, read! Know what's going on in the world and not just necessarily what is going on with the latest popstar. I hate it when prestigious news channels cover celeb gossip - it's like there's definitely something more important going on that we should know about.

Nice talking to you Hunnybunny!

Hola Brianna!!!

I just watched your clip swimming with dolphins. What was it like? Looks totally amazing!!!

Like I said earlier... swimming with the dolphins was really spiritual for me because with humans you have to talk a lot - a lot of small talk - before you really get to know someone. But, with the dolphins, it was like they looked at you and when you made eye contact it was like they knew exactly who you were. And not only knew you, but loved every inch of you with no judgement. I truly believe they know the secrets we are all so desperately trying to discover.

Hi Brianna,

I also haven't seen any of your shows yet - looking forward to it.
Cheers!

Steve

Questions:
1) A couple of questions I've asked elsewhere on these boards: Of the places you have visited, which place are you most drawn to go back to? And of all the places you haven't yet been, where are you most interested in checking out?
I've always been drawn back to Hong Kong because you just meet the most amazing people. I'm also drawn to Sydney Australia because I want to live there one day. And London because there's just something about the energy that makes me feel whole there.

2) You said: "I find the things that I regret most in life are the things I didn't do because of planned budget or fear". What things have you not done because of fear? Can you do these things now?
I didn't hike Mount Fuji (Japan) because I was trying to save money and be budget-y and now I'm like when's the next time I'm going to be in Japan. And one thing I didn't do because I was too afraid was go on the a fair ride in Florida when I was 7. I still regret it!

3) Have you any films or other acting work coming up?
I did an independent film in Canada that apparently got into this year's Cannes Film Festival. It was called "To which I was now" - but no blockbusters as of yet.

4) On another topic on this forum, people were discussing whether it was better to travel alone or with company. Where do you stand on that issue?
I think it all depends on where you are and is it safe. Travelling solo vs. travelling in a group - you will have a different experience. But I think when we travel we have to ask hourselved why are we taking that trip - because to truly discover something, then often I prefere solo because it forces you to be more than open and out of your shell.

5) Are you still as exited at the prospect of the next trip as you used to be? Or can it wear a bit thin?
I'm always excited because once you've been bitten by the travel bug, the bite never stops itching.

6) What’s the last book you read?
The lates book I've read is "Reason for Hope", by Jane Goodall. It's about her travels and working with chimpanzees in mixing in with what's going on the world today and... that we can still save this planet.

7) Will you marry manollo?
Well, for both Manollos that I now know in the world they're both wonderful people but I'm no where near to be married right now.

Thanks Steve - or should I say Spike? - nice talking to you.

1. How did you get the job of hosting Globe Trekker?

2. What was the hardest thing you did while filming?

3. Have you ever done any independent films and if yes where.

4. Did you have to eat anything that made you want to barf?

5. Would you ever go back to honduras and el salvador for a personal vacation?

1. For the job with Globe Trekker, I sent in my home-made reel and the rest is history.

2. The hardest thing physically was climbing the Izalco Volcano in El Salvador. I had buns of steel for a week!

3. Independent films? Yes in Canada and New York.

4. As for barfing... It got edited from the show but I had to eat this Garifuna Soup which is basically coconut milk, fish-heads and yucca root. All that and it didn't even make it into the show.

5. I would go back to Honduras and El Salvador in a heart beat because of the amazing natural beauty.

Nice talking to you Lana - thank you for your thoughtful questions!

Wow, what an adventure! The program has not as yet been on television here.

In the Cayman Trench,
How long was the descent?

It took us round trip about 3.5 hours - about 2 to 2.5 hours to get down.

Was the submersible small?
If you are claustrophobic I would not recommend it - it was extremely SMALL!

How many people can it carry?
3 including the captain.

On Santa Ana,
Was the climb on soft ash or harder rock?

It was on harder rock
Was there any volcanic activity in the crater?
There was volcanic activity on both volcanoes as neither of them is dormant per se. They actually were taking samples that day from the lake in the crater. The vulcanologists looked like they were from the movie Ghostbusters!

I'd like to go to Egypt because what girl that own cargo shirts and a great T-shirt doesn't want to pull a Lara Croft Tomb Raide experience in Egypt Cool

Worst moment? Feeling uneasy in the DMZ (de-militarized zone) in South Korea because it just make me feel so nervous just to be there.

The Caribbean - yes I've been to Jamaica, but missed the Jerk Chicken Cool

The most embaressing thing that happened was that we were walking back to the bus to switch locations in El Salvadore, when a small child ran up to me and said ""Excuse me..." and handed me a piece a toilet paper with a 1 dollar bill inside. So I opened up the tissue and it revealed a love letter saying that this man had just seen me and that I should call him so we could arrange to go on a date. But then I realized the man probably gave the kid a $1 for delivering the message. Then... there was I walking away with the toilet paper AND the 1 dollar bill. Ooops!!!
