Background to
the course
Architect:
The Bay Hill Club and Lodge was conceived in 1960 by
a group of investors from Tennessee who wanted to create
a private retreat where they could enjoy their favorite
hobby. To promote the club, they invited Arnold Palmer
to Bay Hill for an exhibition match in 1965. On that
day, Palmer fell in love with Bay Hill and set the wheels
in motion to acquire control of the club. In 1976, Palmer
purchased the Bay Hill Club and Lodge and it has been
the winter home of the Palmer family ever since. It
is now considered the top track in Orlando and it has
been home to the world famous Bayhill Invitational since
1979.
Type:
Resort
Landscape:
The course is built on 270 acres on the shores of Butler
Chain of Lakes. The numerous mounds and sand bunkers
around the greens require high long iron shots to hold
the greens. |
