Background to the
Course
Architect:
The world renowned Golf Architect Bill Amick, who still
lives in the Daytona area, designed the Spruce Creek
championship course. He also designed Halifax plantation,
Pelican North, Palm Harbor, and Hidden Lakes.
Type:
Parkland
Landscape:
The undulating course features 6,894 yards of fairways,
bunkers, lakes, and greens. The front nine holes, lined
by trees, have undulating fairways with generous landing
areas, whilst the back nine holes are more open and
flat, making them susceptible to wind, and feature seven
holes that play into water on the model of a Links course.
Course facts:
- Situated just five minutes from Daytona Beach, arguably
the world's most famous beach, the Spruce Creek course
is surrounded by a residential community which boasts
its own private air strip built on a Second World War
military airfield. Many of the houses have their own
private hangars and enjoy both flying and golfing facilities
literally on their doorsteps.
- Spruce Creek was one of the world's first Fly In Communities.
Only on Spruce Creek will you see a sign, like the one
at the ninth tee, which says "Beware of low flying
aircraft when teeing off"!
- The Spruce Creek community was until recently home
to actor John Travolta who kept his private plane in
a hangar attached to his house.
