Tell us a travel horror story?
Most recently, while filming in Colombia on a trek into the mountains in jungle to a place only accessible by mule, our sound man was injured. 4 hours into the trek he fell off a steep ridge and dislocated his shoulder. He was stuck alone in the rain, at night, in the jungle for two hours before anyone could get back to help him.
Three hours later he was lying on a wooden table, waiting for dawn where he had to leave the same way - 4 hours on a mule - this time with a dislocated shoulder. It was hellish and he was incredibly strong under the circumstances. And at the hospital they didn't fix it the first time around. And he had to be put under anaesthesia. Oh, and it was his birthday.
If you weren’t such a successful, glamorous TV presenter, what would you be?
A host of Globe Trekker (we don't really do glamour!).
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
I assume you mean about travelling? Bring ear plugs and peanut butter.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
While the odd temple or historic site is nice and all - I love to visit convenience stores in foreign places... odd candies, strange fried foods, curious hair removal products all fascinate me.
If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?
In a hammock... it's always a good sign if there is a hammock around. |
