In the heart of Washington D.C. is a green space known as the National Mall, which harbours a collection memorials and monuments dedicated to the sweeping history of the nation. Chaka Forman touches base with some of these landmarks in a single afternoon's Historical Walk and in the process span hundreds of years of American history in one afternoon!
In Arlington National Cemetary , Forman pays his respects at the Tomb of the Unknowns and the gravesite of John F. Kennedy .
He then crosses the Potomac river heading to the nearby Lincoln Memorial , taking in the iconic sculpture of Abraham Lincoln and the sweeping plaza that has become a popular meeting point for every kind of historical march and protest movement. From here, Forman makes his way past the Korean War Memorial before pausing at the Vietnam War Memorial-a stark wall that first caused a scandal, but is now accepted as one of the most compelling monuments on the Mall.
Chaka then stops long enough for a photo opportunity in front of The White House , then on to the obelisk shaped Washington Memorial . Following the curves of the Tidal Basin, he passes the Jefferson Memorial celebrating one of America's most important Founding Fathers and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial honoring the historical impact of the 20th century president who presided through The Depression in the 1930's, and World War 2 in the 40's.
Finally, Chaka ends his walk with a moving visit to the brand new Martin Luther King Memorial.
