As National Geographic's face in Australia and New Zealand, Matt Young has hosted shows as Matt Young in Guyannadiverse as the popular science-based Future Matters, Sunday Showcase, The Wild Ones, Wild Thing, and Climate Report, in which he investigates the looming impacts of climate change.

As well as being an experienced presenter, Matt Young is also a writer, versed in journalism and environmental sciences, and has co-authored the Australian/ New Zealand edition of The Down-to-Earth Guide to Global Warming. He is currently completing a BSc in Marine Biology and has plans to complete his studies with a PhD.

Short-listed as one of Cleo's Most Eligible Bachelors in 2006, Matt was also nominated in the Favourite New Presenter category at the Australian Subscription and Radio Association (ASTRA) Awards in 2005.

Matt's work with National Geographic Channel has seen him travel the globe, from Hong Kong to New Zealand, Vanuatu, and now Chilean Patagonia and Guyana in South America. His passionate interest in wildlife, the outdoors and indigenous cultures made him the perfect choice for Treks in a Wild World.

Matt Young, Patagonia - ChileIn Chile, Matt hiked to a retreating Patagonian glacier, tried his luck as a rodeo cowboy, and went whitewater rafting through the fearsome rapids of the mighty Futaleufu River. In Guyana, Matt checked out the capital Georgetown's fantastic annual Carnival, before heading down river into the country's jungle interior, where he joined some local prospectors panning for gold, before hiking through deep forest to the spectacular Kaieteur Falls, the world's highest single-drop waterfall.

Matt is also an avid adventurer - he has travelled extensively to more than 24 countries worldwide and lived in both London and Copenhagen for 4 years. When he’s not busy travelling the world, Matt enjoys exploring the rugged outdoors of his native Australia, ready to take on the next challenge.

MATT'S WEB CHAT

Matt Young"Trekking thru Kaieteur National Park, Guyana... It took us a couple of days by boat and foot. It’s not a well-trodden track, so we had to use machetes to carve our way through the thick vegetation. You really felt as though you were in the middle of nowhere!" Read more
