Italy’s capital and most populated city, Rome is one of the most spectacular metropolises in the world. There are few, if any cities, steeped in as rich culture and history than Rome. Continuously inhabited for several millennia, Rome came to prominence as the capital and heart of the eponymous Republic and eventual Empire. Very much the centre of the world for centuries, Rome’s significance remained intact long after the Empire’s collapse, particularly during the Renaissance years. In modern times, it remains one of the world’s most important cities, with its historical identity still firmly intact.
