Lost Cities of Rome
Rome created the largest empire in the ancient world. It’s armies, organisation and building innovation created a vast territory linked by roads.
The Roman Empire covered all of the Mediterranean, much of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
The Romans created hundreds of cities and settlements throughout their Empire linked by caravan, trade and sea routes
Many of these cities lie in ruins today, others buried and many others are forgotten particularly those on the extremes of empire, where land and territory was often contested or changed hands. It is these cities we explore in this program. They include Leptis Magna, Volubilis, Tipasa and Timgad in North Africa and, Baalbek, Jerash, Palmyra and Apamea in the Middle East.
