All Aboard The Maharajas’ Express
Almost half a mile long, this train redefines the meaning of luxurious travelling. The Maharajas’ Express offers fascinating journeys in between Delhi and Mumbai, as well as Delhi and Varanasi. The journeys vary from 3-4 day trips in the Golden Triangle (Delhi – Agra – Jaipur) to week-long journeys (8 days, 7 nights) via India’s stunning countryside.
With a country as vast as India, travelling in between different regions usually necessitates boarding a plane or being prepared to spend many hours in buses or crowded passenger trains. And while there is nothing like an entertaining night with a group of backpackers in the sleeper cabins of India’s ordinary trains, the Maharajas’ Express revives the old, royal India in a unique way. It features a variety of cabins – Deluxe, Junior Suite, Suite and Presidential Suite – all equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including TV and WiFi.
Guests can enjoy delicious complimentary meals and rub shoulders with Indian royalty at the various bars (complimentary wines, spirits and beers), and dive into a chat with fellow travellers in the lounge while watching India’s forever changing landscape pass by outside the window.
The train travels in a moderate speed during the night and allows travellers to go on day excursions at the various stops, including places such as the Taj Mahal, Ranthambore National Park, Bikaner, Varanasi, Jaipur and others.
The excellent staff is extraordinarily customer- service oriented, always friendly and helpful, and an experienced tour director oversees the excursions and offers in-depth information on history and culture. The train operates seasonal between October to April, the ideal travel period for India when the majority of all Indian festivals are happening.
