History

Despite the Great Fire and the Blitz, London retains incredible medieval structures, mostly from the 11th to 15th centuries.

Elizabethan buildings in London, dating roughly from 1558 to 1603, are rare survivors, often characterized by timber-framing, large windows, and, by the late 16th century, the first influences of Renaissance design.

Following the English Civil War Oliver Cromwell’s Parliamentarians took control of Government.

Begun in about 290AD, Pevensey was the biggest of the Roman ‘Saxon Shore’ fortresses. Its hugely impressive walls, more than 500 metres (1,640 feet) long, still stand almost to their full height.
