Adventure Golfer Ian Cross travels to Bali, the Island of 10,000 Temples, to discover some of the most stunning golf courses in the world, and experience the culture and heritage of the Balinese people.
Ian starts his trip at Le Meridien Nirwana Golf and Spa Resort, voted best course in Asia, designed by Greg Norman in 1977. Ian plays a round with course regular Narrelle McDougall, who steers him around the rice paddy fields and the fourteen Hindu temples that dot the landscape.
Leaving the links, Ian samples some Balinese hospitality at one of the trendy new restaurants that make up the emerging nightlife scene. Ian’s been to Bali before and catches up with an old friend over some local seafood.
It’s back to the fairways at the Bali Golf and Country Club in Nusa Dua to have a round of golf with American Ted Moore, a pro since 1979 and resident in Bali for the past 11 years.
Ian travels to the mountainous part of Bali, towards the centre of the island, and the beautiful village of Bedugal, the perfect setting for a temple visit. This is where Ian learns about the spiritual side of this Hindu island.
The Royal Pita Maha resort is Ian’s base from which he goes on an Elephant Safari Ride and then heads further up into the mountains to Bali’s oldest golf club. It’s the only one built in the mountains, set in the crater of an extinct volcano. One of Bali’s top golfers, Agung Raka, takes Ian around the course and offers him a few tips along the way.
Ian finishes the trip to Bali with a Balinese New Year celebration, which sums up the spirituality, hospitality and culture of Bali and its people.
