Great Railway Journeys of Europe – Glasgow To Mallaig

In this episode Julian Davison visits Glasgow, the second city of Scotland and the country’s industrial heartland.

Glasgow is also the start of his journey north, into the stunningly beautiful Western Highlands and four hundred years back in time to learn of feuding Kings and fractious Clans.

On his travels he encounters ancient castles and bagpipe playing lairds. He journeys to the historic town of Fort William to discover the secret history of Bonny Prince Charlie’s involvement in a murderous rebellion.

Julian then climbs aboard ‘The Jacobite’, a historic steam train which takes him on a line made famous by being the ‘Hogwarts Express’ in the Harry Potter movies.

He ends his journey in the old port of Mallaig, hopping off point for the Hebrides and the Western Isles.
