A hybrid architecture, design and culture show aimed at viewers interested in buildings and aesthetics, METROPOLIS: is a 30-minute guide to the style of some of the most recognisable places in the world.
Hosted by passionate architecture and design expert Charlie Luxton, METROPOLIS BALI features contributions from dynamic local designers and architects, including the king of Ubud’s son, Prince Jokorda Jed Rak Sukawati, who is the brainchild behind the opulent Royal Pita Maha Hotel. He tells Charlie that no designs were actually committed to paper before building began.
METROPOLIS BALI uncovers the principles behind distinctive Balinese design and architecture, learning that there’s a spiritual context for everything created or built Bali. We learn how in recent times, Bali has become a Mecca for architects from around the and how it epitomised fusion of eastern and western design principles, blending indoor and outdoor living seamlessly. It has become the benchmark for perfect tropical living.
There are also interviews with local architect Popo Danes and Italian born architect Gianni Francione who is the architect of a number of stunning, high profile private homes on the island. We visit the Four Seasons in Ubud, the design of which is based on traditional Balinese rice terraces and the Nusa Dua resort, voted best new hotel in the world by Conde Nast magazine.
Charlie meets Greek restaurateur Panos Bournias, owner of the stylish Nero Bali restaurant to talk about how Balinese style has changed in the 30 years he has lived on the island.
