Heritage Shops: Maison Empereur of Marseille

Maison Empereur is the oldest hardware store in France. Installed in the heart of Marseille since its creation in 1827, it is an institution for several generations of Marseillais.

Run by the same family for almost 200 years,the staff here dressed in their signature blue tops are understandably proud of the tradition and quality of their shop, their service and goods . There is even a mini museum on site showcasing the accomplishments of this unique store . The eclectic presentation combines antique cabinetry from

the 19th century with modern cutting edge design making for a truely memorable shopping experience .

When we say hardware, we mean retail trade, for professionals as well as for individuals, of DIY tools, scrap metal parts of various sizes ,planes of all kinds, hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, saws, levels, punches, drills, mallets, pliers, stone tools, and many others.

There are also all types of quality household utensils of every variety whether it’s cutlery, ceramics , tapestries , kitchenware or soaps

The store specialises in the trade of high quality articles from established and  old French factories. working primarily with the Entreprises du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV ).
