Space Rock Hunters of the Sahara
Meteorite hunters have long been attracted to the sandy unpopulated wastes of the Sahara desert in search of valuable pieces of space rock which broke up once meteors from outer space crashed into the earth here.
In the huge desert of the Sahara they are easier to spot. The desert spans North African countries such as Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Niger and Chad and it is to these countries that the space rock hunters are focusing their searches
The export of these valuable rocks are illegal and now controversy has erupted after the government of Niger protested after a valuable piece of a Mars meteorite was sold at Sotheby’s auction house in New York for more than four million dollars.
