Rethymnon: City of Ottomans and Venetians

Crete has a complex and rich history stretching from its occupation by the Minoans, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Venetians and Ottomans.

Rethymnon is one of three small cities dotted along Crete’s northern coast which reflects this rich heritage.

Day Trips from Rethymnon

Preveli Beach: Located on the south coast an hours drive from Rethymnon, this is one of several beaches in the area and home to a nearby Ancient Greek monastery.
