Shopping the Tangier Kasbah
All Moroccan cities have kasbahs, situated within the walls of their old cities and their medinas.
The kasbah in Tangier is situated on a steep hill which runs down to the port.
It’s a living place where locals get on with their daily lives as they have done tor centuries. The kasbah is also a popular destination for travellers to wander and shop – full of stores selling spices, carpets, ceramics and all manner of tourist trinkets.

Tangier has always been an international city and in the early 20th century it became an international zone. A number of cafes where artists, writers, diplomats and spies would gather are still here.

Beware: you may be approached by self appointed guides seeking to show you around tor a fee. These “guides” can be quite persistent and are keen to take you to shops where they will earn a commission if you buy. So be firm if you don’t require assistance .
