The war on tourism is often self-harming
Link In the height of summer tourists from around the world descend on European hotspots amidst growing controversy about the negative impact of over tourism.
Authorities and residents in places such as Barcelona and the Balearic Islands in Spain and Venice in Italy are protesting about disruption to the lifestyle of their cities and regions and introducing ever higher tourist taxes in to effort to manage and control the situation.
But an article in the influential Economist magazine warns about the potential of tourist bashing impacting on economies which have a growing dependence on the tourist dollar.
