The Wieliczka Salt Mine
Located in Pomerania in the north of Poland , the Wieliczka Salt Mine was created by nature 15 million years ago. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features nine floors ranging down to a depth of 327 meters
Here you can explore a strange, subterranean world of labyrinthine passages, giant caverns, underground lakes, chapels with sculptures, statues carved in crystalline salt and even rock-salt chandeliers.

The mine was in operation for 900 years and was once one of the world’s biggest and most profitable industrial establishments when common salt was the medieval equivalent of today’s oil.
The mine complex also includes the world’s biggest museum of mining featuring unique centuries-old equipment amongst its exhibits. There is also a sanatorium for those suffering from asthma and allergies.
Concerts and other events take place in the mine’s biggest chambers – the unique acoustics of the place make listening to music here an amazing experience.
