D Day: Beginning of the End of World War 2

D-Day refers to June 6, 1944, when Allied forces launched a massive invasion of Nazi-occupied France during World War II. This operation, known as Operation Overlord, marked a significant turning point in the war.

Troops from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations landed on the beaches of Normandy, facing heavy resistance. The success of D-Day paved the way for the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control. It is remembered for the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers who participated in the assault and is commemorated annually.

D-Day happened on June 6, 1944- the day Allied forces launched the largest amphibious invasion in history .The plan was to establish a foothold in Normandy, France, to push back German forces.the invasion was focused on five beaches in Normandy— Utahand Omaha (U.S.), Gold (British), Juno(Canadian), and Sword(British).

There were Over 10,000 Allied casualties including an estimated 4,414 confirmed dead.

A successful beachhead was established, leading to the eventual **liberation of France** and Allied victory in Europe.It paved the way for the
liberation of Paris in August 1944 and the end of WWII in Europe in May 1945
