Ravaged by conflict for several years, Yemen has been in a state of crisis since 2011. Much of the country’s population struggle for access to food and drinking water due to sanctions and famine. Despite this, the country has a culturally and historically rich identity stretching back several millennia. Furthermore, it is one of the most naturally beautiful and distinct countries in the entirety of the Middle East. No place better exemplifies this than the isolated island of Socotra, which is widely termed ‘the most alien place on earth’ due to its bizarre wildlife found nowhere else on earth.
