Timor-Leste

This former Portuguese colony, once known as East Timor ,gained independence in 2002 after a quarter century long and often brutal occupation by Indonesia .It is located on the eastern half of the island of Timor. Its capital city is Dili.

It has a population of just 1.4 million and relies on income from oil and gas fields.
